There are several different poker hands. A full house is a combination of three cards of one rank and two cards of another rank. For example, a full house would consist of three aces and two fours. Another common poker hand is a flush, which is a group of five cards of the same suit. In addition, a straight is a group of five cards in order, but they don’t have to be of the same suit. The other common poker hand is a three of a kind, which is a sequence of three cards, such as a jack, seven and four.
Each betting interval begins with a bet by a player. Other players must match this bet. If the other players do not match the bet, the action is over. A player with the best poker hand wins the pot. However, poker hands are highly variable, and the rules can be complicated. For example, a player may bet the worst possible hand, but the actual hand may be worse than a flush or a straight.
One of the more complicated poker hands is a backdoor flush. This hand is obtained by hitting the needed cards on the turn and river. This is possible only when the player has a significant statistical advantage.
