Poker is a card game where players compete for a large pot. It is one of the most popular games played around the world. It is a card game that has been played since ancient times and is believed to be an ancestor of many other card games such as blackjack and rummy.

The basic rules of Poker are as follows:

Dealing the cards

After a player has placed an ante in the pot, they are dealt their hole cards (the first two face up). A betting interval occurs, with each round following the last. The players develop their hands in various ways and may discard some of their cards, before the showdown, in which they reveal their hand to the other players.

Ties

If two or more players tie for a ranked hand, it is decided by the highest card. A hand of ace-queen high breaks ties, as does a hand of five-card straight or flush.

Low Card

The lowest hand possible is 7-5-4-3-2, but in some games a player can treat an ace as the lowest card and make 6-4-3-2-A the lowest hand.

Pairs of cards

A pair of cards is a hand that consists of two identical cards, with a fifth card known as the kicker. If there are two pairs of cards, it is called a flush; if there are three pairs of cards, it is a full house; and if there are four pairs of cards, it is a quad.
