Poker is a card game in which players place bets on the strength of their cards. It involves considerable skill and strategy. The objective of the game is to have a winning hand, and the player that makes the highest-ranking hand wins the pot, or sum of all bets made in a particular deal. When betting, a player can choose to call (match the size of the bet) or raise the bet. In addition, a player can decide not to bet at all and simply check their own hand or the hands of other players.
A winning hand consists of five cards. Generally, the higher the rank of a poker hand, the more valuable it is. A full house consists of three cards of the same rank and two cards of another, for example, a pair of jacks and a seven. A flush consists of five cards in sequence, but not necessarily all the same suit, for example, a Q, 10, 7, 6, and 2 of clubs.
