Poker is a card game in which players try to make the best hand out of five cards. The ranking of hands is based on their odds (probability) and the more unusual a hand\u2019s combinations are, the higher its rank.<\/p>\n
There are many variations of the game, but they all share a few essential features: The players play against each other, not the dealer; players may bluff; and betting is an important part of the game.<\/p>\n
The initial deal begins with the player to the left of the dealer button, who is responsible for placing a small bet called a \u201cblind.\u201d This blind, along with the big blind (which the next player to the left of the button must post), are forced bets that help give the game some chase.<\/p>\n
During the first deal, each player is dealt two cards. This initial deal is followed by several rounds of betting.<\/p>\n
Each betting interval or round begins with the player to the left of the button making a bet. Other players may call the bet by putting into the pot as many chips as the previous player; raise the bet by adding more chips to the pot; or fold, which is the simplest form of betting and results in no chips being added to the pot.<\/p>\n
In most games, the highest-ranked hand wins the pot. However, there are some variations that award the pot to the lowest-ranked hand. Typically, this is done by comparing the highest unmatched card against each player\u2019s best three or more-card hand, with the lowest hand winning if the other player does not have a high enough unmatched card to qualify.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
